6.8 Western vs. .270 Is The Hype Justified?

Why's everybody gotta over complicate things, there's nothing magic about any calibers... similar projectile traveling a little bit faster. If you already have a 270 then no it's not worth it, but if you don't have either and deciding between the two why not go with the 6.8? Only downside I can see is ammo availability but that's not a factor for me on hunting rifles as I might shoot 10 rounds in 15 or 20 years after sighting them in.
Agree with the others though, if it's for Elk a 30 caliber is the norm, get a 30-06 if you don't want the magnums and recoil.Last edited by justletmein; 01-21-2022, 12:20 PM.

Now from there you can choose which 7mm you want based on how you want the rifle set up. Short barrel do 7-08 or 7 SAUM, Long barrel get a 7 Rem Mag, 28 Nosler, 280AI

I started hunting with a 270 using a 130 gr bullet and killed a number of elk with it.
The caliber is just fine for elk.

I’ve done it a few times with my .270…no problem at all
