    270 WSM Advice Needed

Will a 270 WSM in a short action be able to fully utilize the 170's? If so what twist rate would you recommend? If not what twist would you go with to shoot the 150's?

Rifle will be built on a Savage short action and either a 22 or 24 inch barrel.

Let me know your thoughts please. 270 WSM will not change. I already have the dies, brass and a couple of suitable powders. And a few projectiles.

With the 170 elite hunter at 2900fps Berger recommends a 1-8.75” or faster twist

A 10 twist shows the 150VLD to be stable all the way down to 2600fps, so I wouldn’t expect any problems with that bullet.

I have a 270wsm BLR and load up 140 grs for it, shoots well. I always load up bonded bullets. I have a few 150 grs loaded up too.
Took my last moose with it.

The first kill on it was a coyote at 362yds, on my moose hunt. Not complaints about the rounds or how they shoot out of the 1:10 twist.

Im just worried about having to stuff the 170 to far into the case to make it fit in the action

There is a fellow on rokslide who put several hundred rounds through his SA 270wsm running 170gr with a COAL at the wyatts box max (2.95~) He achieved 3000fps with RL26 and a 24" barrel (proof 1-8t) and the bullet seated pretty far back, .09 off.

I'm pretty sure I am gonna still build it with an 8 twist possibly a 7.5. Not being able to shoot the 170's isn't a deal breaker, it would just be nice. I would love to get 3000 fps but that's not required either. Thanks for all the input so far.
