How do first shots compare between shooting sessions? I mean hours or even days apart? Does the first shot hit bullseye or the intended target?

I don't know about others, but if I try to shoot my 300 win mag or 300 why out of a lead sled, the bullets are all over the place. I have certain guns it works fine with and 3 or 4 that are no go's.

They are also hard on the rifle if it has moderate to heavy recoil, especially scopes and stocks.

At first glance I thought you might be shooting an Encore or Ruger #1. That vertical stringing is common with those rifles. But, with a 700, it's got to be something going on with the stock. Tear it down and retorque everything. Getting into handloading wouldn't hurt either.

I would try another ammo. I had 2 .308s and was shooting Superformance. It threw that crap all over the target. Went to a different Hornady ammo and was less than 1/2” in 5 rounds. My guess is it is not the gun or optics.

Interesting as I've never had a problem with mine. I don't put weight in the sled or strap my gun down so I wonder if that makes a difference?

I don't weight the sled or strap my gun in either. I can shoot smaller calibers like, 243, 270, 22-250 and such and it does fine. Bigger calibers, 300, 338, 375 are no go's for me.

I actually bought it for the bigger rifles to get close and I will fine tune with sand bags, won't work so I hardly use it anymore.

Well tried without the suppressor, different scope and rechecked every screw/bolt on it. Still isn’t grouping with anything I’ve got. Not even close, best group was still about 4”. Looking at the inlet for dbm shows it may not be centered/level if that makes sense. So I’m gonna cut my losses and just have it tried, rebarreled, and bedded. Thanks for all the suggestions.

It should have some play in it - you can move it with your fingers up and down a little bit.

It should be firmly set in the barreled action, then you put the stock on top without dislodging the mag box.

Check that - ***Assuming it's a bdl setup.
I agree, many people miss this as I did years ago. Now I always check that mag box

Have you looked at it with a bore scope?

                        Hornady custom

OP I’d strip that thing down and retorque every bolt on it. Check the base. Check barrel contact. And make sure your front action screw isn’t putting anything in a bind. Also you may consider backing off to 55 in/lb. I run all mine at 55 even on heavy recoiling magnums. If it’s not bedded I’d get that done and have the dbm inlet checked. I’ve had several manners stocks with out of spec dbm inlets. Usually cut too deep. Easy fix. But will screw stuff up if not fixed. Manners QC is trash.
Your right, I just looked at my boxes, I was talking about Hornady custom! Not match. Which is the same interlock bullet, which is one of the ones they quit making and I couldn’t find either.
