    Savage Axis

Found a Savage Axis a while back on clearance. After putting on a nice scope, getting it mounted, bore sighted. Only needed 6 shots and it’s gonna get meat out to 200yds. I just don’t like the trigger. Way too heavy. Did the poor mans trigger job by cutting rings out of the factory spring. Wasn’t pleased with it.
Got a Timney. Installed today and what a difference. Can’t wait for a break in the weather to send a few down the range.
Planning to take it on a mule deer hunt in November with brunner.

My buddy has one & likes it.

I bought a brand new Savage 116 300 WM on here last year. Works great for me... only thing I may change is getting the barrel threaded for a muzzle brake. The AccuTrigger is nice.

      Yes sir.
Did your buddy keep the old plastic stock or did he do something different.? I like the original plastic for the weight while hiking. But not opposed to an aftermarket stock. If it’s not super heavy.

He didn’t change anything on it.

My 300WM has a lot of recoil since it’s so light, but it doesn’t bother me all that much to be honest. Worth it for the price.

The Axis is a inexpensive model. But they are shooters. I won mine in a contest.
Did a few upgrades and it shoots 223 moa. The trigger job was easy. Cut 1.5 coils off the trigger spring. It is about 5-6lbs now. Put a Boyds stock on it and upgraded the bolt handle, good glass and rings. It is one of my favorite guns now.

I bought a 308 off of here for my daughter. She’s been killin with it for 2 years now. Accutrigger is great for the young ones. I can make it go sub moa easily on paper. They are really good guns if they’re set in a wood stock. The Tupperware stocks others have are flexible and crap at best.

Looked at a Boyd’s stock. Nothing fancy, but definitely an upgrade. Spike Camp Thumbhole. May go that route. Gonna see how it shoots first after the trigger upgrade.

It went from plain jane and cheap feeling to this.
Boyd's Heritage stock in Pepper, Warne rings, EGW Base, Leupold Rifleman scope and oversize bolt handle from Glades Aromory. Home trigger job.
This gun is a great shooter. A different stock makes all the difference in the world shooting this gun.
