You should use it. I use most of my heirloom guns every year, not because I need to but rather because it reminds me of my dad and hunting with family. I've bought far lighter, more accurate rifles that I should take but the memories each gun carries when I take it to the field are priceless.
I wouldnt, with it being mint. I have rifles from my grandpa that I do use every season but they were used before I got them. I have multiple guns in my safe that i've never shot before after I purchased them though.
I'd take it. You don't plan on selling it so what harm does minor wear and tear do? Use but don't abuse. If it was never shot maybe start a log of animals taken with it to be passed down through the future generations.
I like the log idea. Would be cool to look back on someday.
If it's mint I'd keep it mint. It's not going to outperform what you can buy today. If it was blemished and well worn in, I'd take it and hunt with it for the experience. Just my opinion.
