I would NEVER send someone a picture of my drivers license.

TGT is fine if you do FTF. Done quite a few deals there. Bought and sold.

Use tgt with common sense and the tips posted on the second post are great! I’ve bought and sold a a handful of rifles on tgt. Anyone that asks for a pic of me holding said gun I ignore it. I don’t hesitate meeting at police dept etc. but just as there are scammers there’s twice as many tire kickers.

You are certainly free to just sell a gun in person for cash and call it good, but if something goes wrong down the line, you will end up with some serious legal bills, at a minimum.

TGT also has a really good firearms bill of sale and I'd strongly recommend you use it. Texas law basically requires that you make a reasonable effort to avoid selling to a person who is not legally able to buy. Age is easy enough from a D/L or CHL. Since you don't have access to the NCIC to run a background check, they certify by signing that bill of sale that they are legal. For the most part, if you've done those two things, you're covered if they go do something stupid.

I always make sure I talk to the person, you can usually tell by their demeanor if it's sketchy. I do FTF and always in a public place. I met/bought an AR-10 from a fellow at a gas station close to the airport and I pulled up and he's sittin' there on the trunk of his car with it on his lap like nothing..
It was a super good deal, it found a new home after I had it a year anyways so I wasn't worried.

Perhaps the laws have changed now...as to bill of sale and getting into legal issues I’m not sure if a bill of sale will get you out of a civil suit and having to pay legal fees. While a bill of sale may feel like a security blanket it definitely does not remove said possibility. In that case have buyer meet you at ffl for a 100% transfer/transaction.
