It is my understanding that on quality rifle cans (17-4, stellite, etc) erosion only really starts happening once the can in hot. Meaning you get almost zero erosion on the first shot or 2.
Good call. Ill rarely shoot hot and honest probably won't shoot this gun more than 1000 rounds. Can is a yhm phantom ti.
Finally made out to the range today. Best I got was 1inch at 100yds with hornady American whitetail 150 grains. I didn't get to try the federal, corelokt or any handloads yet.
Other rifle I was shooting was my new R783 16" in .223. Didn't really get good groups on it with trash Winchester or monarch rounds. 1.5 inch. I know it can do better.
Edit: the 13" barrel performs flawlessly like I figured it would. Full burn and no smoke or flames [emoji91]. I only shot un-suppressed and will try again later this week. Hope the next report is a bit better. Elbow is raw from the bench.
I’ve walked mine out to 750 yards. I shot a doe last year with my 16” 308 using 165gr Accubond and perfect expansion with full penetration at 524 yards.
Im taking this rifle with me next time i go out. Still havent had time to chrono the 150grain hand loads i made for it. I think im going to try 125sst to get a bit more speed although i think the 150s should expand at 100yards.
Gordons shows about 2200 but they are usually low on the velocity calc from what i have seen. I have a caldwell chrono but havent used it yet.
So looks like GRT was low on velocity. Avg was a NICE 2450fps (150grain HDY interlocks) with the chrono 8-10 feet in front. Groups were still in the 1inch area @100yds so im happy with that for now. Ill shoot something with it soon and investigate after.
