I am guessing it may be a liability thing with the ammo makers that the use cannelure bullets and also crimp them in place. Quite a few cartridges even small one have crimped in bullets due to being shot in an auto loader. It’s not a good thing to have a bullet pushed back into a case and shot.

Muddy fuzzy sorry to get long winded. You can buy Nosler factory seconds/overruns here. Sometimes bullets with a cannelure available and sometimes not. Here is an example.

I’m familiar with the purpose of the cannelure, the 120 grain .257” Interlocks I shoot in my 25-06’ have always had them. All of my pistol bullets have them regardless of make/model/caliber. I also have several varieties of Sierra bullets that have them, they are not uncommon as mentioned. Quality Factory ammo is loaded to SAAMI specifications to ensure proper and safe function in modern chambers that have been printed meeting dimensional requirements thus ensuring safe feeding and function regardless of maker or action type. I’ve loaded many bullets that have a cannelure and very seldom seat my bullets at a depth where it is contacted providing the proper free-bore. Since they are all turn-bolt style they do not get crimped. I do seat my pistol reloads on the cannelure and they get a crimp.

Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me; furthermore, I’ve never seen one. I could be wrong but that doesn’t make sense and also doesn’t jive with my 20 years of handloading their product. If the manufacture these cannelure types bullets where can I buy them.

If you look at federal premiums factory loaded nosler ballistic tips, they have a cannelure as well.

That's what I am thinking, I had some for my 7mm Rem. Mag. and I still use them for my 270 AR. I found some years ago, that Speer makes bullets, that seem to be exact copies of Sierra bullets.

I think it's the old Nosler solid base bullet that's been discontinued.
