When you said AI I shook the head... half your barel life gone from the get go on fire forming unless you chamber up a separate barrel just for fire forming. Components are expensive and not easy to come buy . Simple 7mm mag would have served well. Or a 284 win mag is great choice with great readily available Components

      Hunting rifle.
I don’t realistically see me shooting that many rounds down the tube. Yeah, one component may be relatively expensive but that’s just the AI specific Brass. I have already started loading for my .280 so components sort of go hand in hand there. Which was also part of my decision to go that round, it slightly stream lines my component pile. I used to think I wanted to hand load for every rifle I own, but at the moment I’d rather just do it for the one or two that I shoot most.

I’ve been wrong before, I’m by no means an expert, but if it was THAT bad, sure seems like you would hear about it more. That said, if this was bench rest rifle then ...yeah then maybe so.

There are several sources for 280ai brass, in fact several manufacturers make 280ai factory ammo.

I’m not close minded about this though.
If the collective thinks I’d be better served going one way or another rather than AI then I am all ears.

I was under the impression that regular 30/06 based brass or Ai’s have better reloading life and generally barrel life vs any of the magnums.
-I get an extra round in the mag
-less powder consumption/ more efficient than a magnum
          -slightly less recoil and report.

You're on the right track. Stay the course!

Only if you reload cases once, which defeats half the point of reloading. And you know, factory brass exists...

You can buy factory ammo and brass for the 280 AI. No need for fire forming brass. APR built me one a few yrs ago. It's a hammer. 168 bergers at 2900 and i didn't lean on it at all. Shot great with great SD and ES so i didn't chase fps since i dial anyway

Sounds like a great build! I would suggest upgrading to the Triggertech Diamond if budget allows. I have the primary in my APR and fixing to make the switch after MLD season is over.

                      And the wait begins.

Dropped the stock off today and put my deposit down.
                      - the Bartlien 2B fit the stock great.
                      - decided on a Triggertech special over the primary but didn’t go diamond.
                      - luckily he had a hawkins BDL bottom metal on hand, it fit the stock well...so that’s settled

I’m looking into the Nightforce SHV line of scopes, likely the 4-14x50 or 56
It was recommended here, Russell is a dealer of them and from the little research I did the price point is good and they have good reviews as a hunting scope.

I just ordered a Trigger Tech Special for my build as well.
Looking forward to yours getting out together.

Things are getting real. Action finally arrived!
That approximate 12 week lead time was brutal.

Great looking build on all aspects.

I do question the stock as it looks like the barrel channel is cut rather large for a 2B.?.?
