    .243 wssm

Is there such a thing and how does it relate to my old 243?

It’s definitely faster and flatter. It’s a 404 Jeffries case necked down to .243. I bought a 223 WSSM for my son its pushing a 55 grain pill at dang near 4000 FPS.

Bout 100 fps faster with 100 grain bullets while shooting harder to get ammo.

It’s awesome on prairie dogs!!! Only down side clients complained about, was the cost of shells/brass and that the throats of the barrels could get burnt out after about 2,000 rounds.

Regular 243. Will push 55s to 4100+. It's a neat design but ammo would not be easy to find.. and no quality brass available to help out the reloader. It was a phase and it will be phased out just like alot of others. Dont drink the coolaid

I was under the impression that it has been pretty well phased out. I haven’t seen ammo for one in a long time

Have one and love it. Brass is available right now online.
Shoots flat and reaches out there.
                Great reloading caliber.
Our rifle is quite accurate as well.
Short action lends to a lighter weight rifle .
We had to tinker with the mags to get them to feed correctly on our bolt gun but for an AR it is really a great caliber.

I had a Winchester 70 in 243wsm, but it wasn't very accurate, and ammo was very expensive for testing loads to see if it was the ammo or the gun.

In my opinion the wssm's was a marketing ploy to sell more rifle's. You had 25, 243, and a 223 wssm, and they all had there problems. Blame it on the ammo manufacturer's or the rifle manufacturer's, but Browning sold a lot of these, and they were crap. I was in the market for 22-250, but being a bargain hunter, found the rifle I wanted for $250 less in 223 wssm at Gander Mountain. That was a mistake. Browning ended up replacing the rifle with a 22-250. None of the three will do anything better that an already well established round in the same caliber that's been around for awhile will do. 22-250 vs 223 wssm regular 243 vs 243 wssm 25-06 vs 25 wssm. They were pointless.

I'll stick with my regular 243. It's great and don't see the immediate benefit.

My sister shoots one....very accurate and it will keel. Ammo sucks to find nowadays, should’ve bought it all when it was all over the shelves at Bass Pro.
