Need help with info on a S&W

This pistol was my grandfather’s that passed away 10 years ago tomorrow. My dad gave me a couple of his guns. This one has been sitting in the back of my safe since right after he passed. Tomorrow I’m going to the ranch and will shoot it this weekend.

Can anyone help look up the model and manufacture date? Thanks.

15-3’s were made 1968-1977. I may be wrong but I think they were all blue-steel and yours looks like it has been nickel plated.

Nice gun and the few I’ve handled were good shooters.

I was wrong - S&W did offer this gun in nickel.
