Sure, I remember those times. I also remember milky stock finish, flash rust, muzzle wear and coming home cold, wet and tired but having to take care of my gun first.

A coat of triflow and my gun is virtually impervious to the elements for days.

Trflow and others like it work just as well on wood stocked firearms of yeaster year also.

My deer rifle is wood, and for years my duck gun was a shiny blued and walnut wingmaster. That 870 has been hunted hard rain or shine. The bluing is a little worn, but the wood looks as good as it ever did, better than my camo beretta that the finish has rubbed off of in places after a year. I can see not taking a beautiful high dollar gun in a salt marsh, but I've never quite understood the idea of wood being so hard to take care of.

This article is good at addressing weather and wood. Reto Buehler is an ACGG gunsmith and knows a thing or two bout fine gun. This is the rifle he built for me.

Life is too short to hunt with ugly guns. But everybody had their own idea of what is ugly and what isn't, just get out and shoot your own guns let other folk shoot their own.

I personally prefer a wood stock rifle. Nothing feels nicer in the hands. But there are options to dress up your synthetic stocks.
