Ar-15 safety seizing after flipping back and forth about 10 times

I am built an AR-15 recently and I have been having a problem with the safety. After flipping it back and forth about 10 times, it seizes up where it is impossible to flip it from safe to fire. I have taken the grip off and put it back on and then repeated the process with the same result. If I tap on the safety some and try to flip the switch while doing that, it works but is still difficult to flip. Anyone have problems similar to this and anything I should try? Thanks y’all!

Under the hand grip is a spring that holds a détente pin in place in there. Did that détente come out? I believe that détente is also pointed on one end, make sure that end goes in the hole first(rides against the safety switch).

Yes and the point is up against the safety.

Could be something under trigger base causing it to bind against safety. Could also be worn out pin through trigger housing or safety trying to back out of firearm.

You have one of the trigger spring legs in the wrong place or it has bound up on the side of the receiver and the selector. Take the upper off and look at the Safety selector, watch it while you work the selector and trigger.

Just pull the lower apart and put it back together to make sure it’s right.

I had something similar once and the safety detent had a bur or something wrong with it. I replaced the safety detent and it’s smooth as silk now.

The tiny piece of brass can really stop things. No pun intended.
Most detents now have points on both ends so you cannot put it in wrong.
So...where you at with it now?

You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.

                      Hehe! That's funny!

I always polish up the safety groove that the detent rides in but still snaps in place. Cheap lower parts kit with a little TLC takes it from crappy to awesome!

Hope the OP gets it figured out, nothing like a good gun project after work and a beer!
