    1:7 or 1:8

what's the ideal barrel twist for a 10.5" barrel .223/5.56 that will be used to shoot mostly 55, 62 and very few 69 and 75 grain bullets (((With a suppressor on it)))

I'm looking for a .223 wylde stainless Steel barrel right now just need to know what's a good twist

Don’t know if I’ve ever seen one that short. My 18” wylde is 1:8 and will shoot anything 62g down to 45gr fantastic. Above that goes to &@$% pretty rapidly

I’m surprised that 8 doesn’t like heavies. I can run 77s out of mine fantastic. I run mostly 75s though, with an occasional mag of 69s.

OP I’d go 8 twist if I were you. 7 gets pretty finicky below 60 from my experience.

I've thought about going up to 11.5" barrel if that make a difference...

I’ve got several 10.5” SBRs that are all 1/7. I can shoot 55 grain vmax. One of them shoots the 45s decent. Haven’t tried in the others. They seem to handle everything well but obviously they shine with heavies.

I'd go with the 1:7. Have a 10.5" and it shoots Hornady 75gr BTHPs well, along with a variety of 55-62grn FMJs. I've only owned 1:7 twist .223s, and I'm not sure there's a downside to going with the faster twist.

Check your suppressor, but if it's full auto rated it's probably good to go. I use my Hybrid 46 on all my SBRs.

                8. But I like lighter bullets in the 223

It won't make a bit of difference.

Yes. 10.5s are brutal to shoot without a can.

Just for reference. Plug in the info for any boat tail bullet and get a decent idea for twist.

Not related to 1/7 vs 1/8, I would suggest you do that anyway. The double-digit percentage dwell time advantage with 11.5" for just an extra inch of barrel is worth the trade off. Typically, 10.5" barrels tend to be over gassed to ensure they reliably cycle and it's harder on your BCG.

I would also use an adjustable gas block.
                              Just my 2 cents.
