    .270 Winchester & Red deer

It appears I’m going on a red deer hind hunt next month. I’m really looking forward to it. My best bud is going with me too. We haven’t had a chance to go hunt together for the last 5 years or more.

So as I’m still in the recovery phase of my surgery to fix my busted neck, I have found I can run my Savage.270 Winchester without any problems. So with that onto my question.

I have a supply of Sierra 140 gn btsp bullets to use . I rigged up a batch for testing using Re-22. and it seems to be a decent load. So with that , have any of y’all used this bullet for killvesting your game? I’m interested in what your thoughts on it’s performance .

Our shots will only be out to about 100-150 yards. I have no experience with red deer, but I understand they can be a little bit larger than a white tail deer. It would be nice if a hog or two accidentally stepped out in the shooting lanes while we were there also.

I've shot enough stuff with a 150 gameking out of a 30-06 to trust it without a doubt. I dont see why the 140 in a 270 would be any different.

Put that bullet where it needs to go and you will have a dead animal. I would use that combo with confidence!

I wouldn’t sweat it. Put it in the right spot and you’re good

Thanks guys. It’s looking to be a decent load, I was more wondering about if it was going to be too much bullet.

Don’t want to ruin too much meat. If those critters go 300 lbs on the hoof I was thinking it would be just about right.

Should be good. If you can pick your shot lungs or heart through the ribs will not waste much meat and kills critters dead. If you have to shoot a shoulder so be it, still a lot of meat on one.
