    257 Weatherby ammo search

Didn't want to hijack the last 257 Wby thread. I recently bought a Weatherby Vanguard in 257 Wby mag after reading lots of great things about it. Now trying to sift through the different options of ammo and opinions on different loads I feel like I'm going to spend more money trying to find the right ammo than I did on the rifle. This search makes me realize how little I know about different loads after shooting my Federal Blue box & Remington Core Lokts all these years.

I'm hoping to use it as a longer range (maybe 300-400 yard) option for deer and maybe pronghorn. No elk or big exotics.

For you guys who know are any of these choices on Weatherby's sight good options?

    Thanks for your help

Mine loves the Weatherby Select Plus 110gr accubonds.

I may have some 100gr bullets I could part with. If you’re interested, shoot me a PM

Once I get mine back I’ll be willing to get rid of a few different boxes that mine didn’t like.

I will say that caliber is the toughest one I’ve ever owned trying to group out of the 12 rifle calibers I own across multiple platforms.

Could just be the rifle but man the ammo is expensive.

Mine shoots 110 Accubonds great. It also shoots the 115 Berger’s good too. Of the ones listed, they are all great pills. But for deer I would stay away from the Ballistic tips in this caliber. Obviously heavier is better but you need the right bbl twist to stabilize them.

Mine will literally shoot the silver box spire points into a tiny group. Ive tried it out on pigs and it absolutely hammers them.

When I first got my 257 I had a hard time finding ammo. It was the first few years of the previous administration. I settled for what I could find and they are 110 grain ballistic tip and 100 grain ballistic tip. I did barrel break in with the 100 grain and sighted in with the 110. I hunt with the 110 grain and only one deer that I have shot ran 40 yards. All the others were DRT. Small diameter entry and exit wounds and massive internal damage. Same for hogs. Not one step when shot with shots out to 250+.
I have not personally used the App "AmmoSeek" to buy ammo, but there are usually quite a few options on there to choose from.

Have two of the vanguards. They both shoot less than 1/4 inch groups with the spire points right out of the box. Used them for years in south Texas and never loss a mature animal. Under 150 shoot for vitals. Over that high shoulder does the trick.

I can lend you some to try if needed.

I have shot ballistic tips in a .257 Wby for 20 years with the same result on whitetail, muleys, hogs and aoudad. Ballistic tips would not be my choice for bigger game like elk or nilgai however.

If I were looking at factory Ammo options I would get the 110 Accubonds.

The 257 is hard on bullets because of the velocity.

Typically other manufacturers like Hornady and Nosler will not match the factory Weatherby loads in performance. They are typically noticeably slower just barely beating the 25-06 which defeats the purpose of owning the Weatherby.

Same. Have exact same gun as OP and it shoots the 100gr spire's in the same hole.

i shoot Nosler 110 Accubonds. I have been using the Nosler brand but due to scarcity bought up several boxes of the Weatherby line with the same bullet
