    Upper End Production Rifle?

Got the itch for a .257 Weatherby. It would be a blind gun so I want something a tad nicer than a Remington 700 or Winchester 70. I looked at the Weatherby Mark V, but not a fan of the high gloss bluing and stain on the wood. I want a high grade wood stock with a satin finish. Matte barrel and action.

A Cooper 52 would be hard to beat if you are wanting to go higher end production.

Funny you mention the Cooper 52. I was just looking at those and it might be the ticket.

Out of curiosity, what would having what I want built by a gunsmith? Ballpark

My first thought was a Sako 85 Classic. I don't think they chamber it in a 257 Weatherby though.

$2000-$2500 to start nice wood is expensive hand checkering is expensive you could easily spend 2k on just the stock

Cooper came to my mind first. You can order one just like you want or you can look for one on the shelf somewhere. I have several of them and they won’t disappoint. I even ordered one that I supplied the stock blank on. The wait time on one your special order can be long though.

Weatherby Mark v Outfitter RC 257

If I were in the market I’d give this one a real hard look.

Have you looked at the Weathermark line? Not wood but if I could get another Weatherby this is the model I would get. I have a Vanguard in .257 and the Accumark in 6.5-300.

Both are fine rifles and if I was looking for a rifle to hunt spot and stalk style in the rugged mountains, both of those would definitely be options. For this one, I am wanting some beautifully figured wood grain.

Go Ruger #1 for a pretty one. Go custom for a hunting rifle.

For what you’re looking for I’d go Cooper
