    Remington Wingmaster Information

Will a new Wingmaster barrel fit on an older Remington Wingmaster? I have one from my grandfather and the barrel has some rust and pits. Would like to replace it.

Not sure how much they have changed them. I would call Remington.

I suggest looking into having the barrel re blued on your grandfather's 870. At least to me, it would retain more of the sentimental value but this is just a suggestion.

If it's a 12 gauge, it should fit. On 20 ga, they have 2 different size frames, a Wingmaster and Wingmaster LT. They are not interchangeable. Also a Wingmaster Magnum will accept either the standard barrel or magnum, but the reverse is not true. Though it will fit, the receiver is not built for magnum loads and the ejector port is too short to dependable eject 3" hulls.

SaltwaterSlick hit it on the head. That is exactly what I was about to say.

Since we're on the subject: If anybody has a 20ga WingMaster with the serial number ending with an "N", I would be interested in buying it for a project I have. The "N" designates a 3" receiver, in case anybody is wondering. I don't care what barrel it has or condition of the barrel. Or if it even has a barrel. As I'm interested in the working receiver. Please send me a PM to get my attention!

Edit: On a side note for those wondering, the 870 Express 20ga barrels will not fit the WingMasters. I've done tried.

yep Michael, I used to be a Wingmaster man! Then I got the wild hair and traded in 4 Wingmasters and 8 barrels (all fixed chokes) for 4 Browning BPS's with Invector chokes... I had 2 left hand wingmasters and 2 right hand ones, all 3" and I traded them even for the brand new BPS's 2, 12 gauge and 2 20 ga... and gave the guy $30 bucks to process the 4473's... Biggest dang gun trade mistake I EVER made... In fact, I've not traded a gun since, and that was probably in '95 or so!! I've not seen a left hand Wingmaster since then either!

I'll keep an eye out for a lefty for ya SWS.

My first was a rib-less 12 Magnum I bought from a pawn shop in Arligton, that was going out of business. I was a poor boy at the time. Paid $125 for it in 1984. I eventually nicknamed it "My Water Puppy" cause it had been submerged and used so many times, the wood lost most of it's sheen. It had a Parkerized 30" barrel. But dang man, could it group #4, 5, and 6 shot with that fixed full choke! I had one load of home rollers, of 1-5/8oz #5 shot (about 250 pellets = or -) that I could kill ducks with at 80 yards dead. I miss the days of lead. And I miss that gun too. I quit trading many years ago to. And wish I had every one I ever traded.

I put another Magnum back in the collection a few years ago. I've never even shot it.

My favorite duck load was those Peters Blue Whistlers in 5’s. I used to tell ‘em ducks, “If you don’t want to hit the ground hard, don’t fly high!”

Most of the barrels are interchangeable with the 12 ga. I picked up one(1954) in an estate with a sawed off barrel. When I measured it 17 7/8" was the best I could do. I pulled it off and grabbed a spare out of the safe and slapped it on. Instant legal gun. It goes well with the other 3.
