    Bullet Info wanted

My father found a old bullet in a gun case that was given to him from my late Grand Father. All the info I could on it was what the head stamp gave me. LC 68.... From what I gather it was made at Lake City Ordinance Plant in Independence, Missouri in 1968. Im thinking its a 7.62 but not sure. Can yall shed some light for me. Thank you in advance.

Yep, look like a lake city 7.62x51 made in 68, a pair of calipers for case length and COAL would answer your questions better than a photo though.

Lake city only produces 5.56, 7.62, 50 bmg, and 20mm. It sure ain't 50 bmg or 20mm, and unless your fingers are tiny, it's not 5.56.

Get a set of calipers and measure the base of the bullet diameter and that will tell you what caliber it is such as .284, .308 etc...

That would be a 7.62X51 cartridge not bullet.

                ^^ This!

It's a Lake City 7.62x51 NATO cartridge and 68 is the year code. You can tell it's NATO because of the primer seal. Civilian ammo doesn't have the primer seal.

Thank you for correcting me on it being a cartridge and not a bullet. I have always had a bad habit of saying I was out of ammo or bullets and not I'm out of cartridges.

He could have very large hands and it be a 50 BMG or 20 mm. If that's a 20 mm , he would be a giant.

Its neither one of them I can promise you that. I thought dad used it in Veitnam when he was there but said he used nothing but a 50 cal as a door gunner and carried a m16 when he needed to.
