    Mini 14 SBR project

So my brother has had this for 7-8 years. It’s been engraved with our trust info since day 1. Neither of us have done anything with it.

I’m wanting to cut the barrel down to just in front of the hand gaurd and thread it and run a FH for my specwar or nomad. Anybody done it?

Curious on gas and cycling issues. But the AC556 runs good short. Also looking for front sight options.

Why is it on your trust already?

I didn’t say that it is. I said it is engraved with our trust info. Brother had every intention of filing a form on it and had it engraved with several other guns.

ooooohhh im going to like this one!

What about just re-installing the original front site? You could but it up against the hand guard and leave enough on the end to thread. I would think the extra 1.5" or so of barrel would help with the cycling.

There are other sight options but it would depend on the diameter of the barrel and sight height.

This thread is interesting to me but I'm going to have to learn a new language to follow along. Engraved, trust, filing a form?

Good luck OP. Seems like if you cut that thing down anymore you could fit it in a hip holster

I bet Morgan at Class 3 machining could cut the barrel down, thread, and reinstall the original front sight. He does great work.

Not exactly what you are asking but,
I cut my barrel to 13" and welded a 5.5" flash hider to get back to 16", it cycles just fine.
I used a different stock with a rail and added sights.
Mini14 has a slip on pinned front site from the factory.

                I’m going this direction.

I’m not real sure why you would cut off part of the barrel. Lose velocity. And then pin something back on it to make it the same length unless you pin a can on it?

I think I found my fix to any gas issues. Accuracy systems makes an adjustable gas block. And if I can located a FSB that goes on top of it that’ll be the winner.

You may not have to many gas issues as is my mini would throw brass straight out the side about 15'. From what i have read most of the time the adjustable gas blocks are added to reduce the amount of gas.

Keep us posted on how this turns out i have considered doing this as well in a 300 bo mini.

I'm also curious if lopping off a considerable amount of barrel on the older minis will increase the accuracy issues.

And basically what I’m asking is if anyone has done it, what issues have you ran into. But I got my answers elsewhere lol. It was a long shot here on NFA advice. But I know there’s several guys with a bunch of SBRs and machine guns on here

It could only help the one I have 😂

No joke. I got to watch a friend chase accuracy out of an older mini....lots of frustration. I bought a mini brand new in 2010ish and it actually shot really well, that’s the one I wish I didn’t sell.
