However, you can just use an endcap that matches your barrel thread. A piston setup is only needed for guns without a fixed barrel, i.e. most pistols.
Gotcha, so I currently have the can set up with the ASR mount, so if I found an ASR brake in the same thread pitch as the upper I can just use that and I don’t have to worry about the piston?

Whoa hold on right there. I’m assuming with an AR9 you’re shooting a 9mm or .355 projectile. You’ll find plenty of 1/2-28 ASR brakes and flash hiders, but I don’t know of a single one that will support a .355 projectile. Most, if not all, of the 1/2-28 ASR mounts are for 223/556.

That is correct. Or even 30cal in 5.8x24. But I am not sure if silencerco even makes a brake for it or not. Haven’t checked yet. Because aren’t most threads on AR9 1/2x36?

This single port muzzle brake is compatible with all SilencerCo ASR Mounts and with multiple thread and caliber options” you can shoot suppressed for any demand. It offers quick and easy one-hand-on” one-hand-off attachment and detachment. The 1-port design effectively reduces felt recoil and muzzle climb. Each ASR muzzle brake comes with a shim set [...]
