165 GR Sierra Game Kings in a 30-30?

Anyone ever done this? How did they work? I have some extras laying around and I am bored so I figured I might try it.

I’d worry about primer strikes if in a lever gun. That’s why most have a flat nose or the soft tip to keep from primer detonating in tube. So I’ve read and been advised.

Yeah , I’ve done that in the past. I used Hornady 165 sp and I’ve done it with Nosler 150 bt.

Turned my 336 into a 2 shooter but it will work if you don’t have any feeding issues.

Unless you have a bolt action, don’t load more than one in the tube.

That was the answer i figured I would get. Not using the game kings anymore so was looking for another alternative for them.

I feel like you won’t get good expansion with them at 30-30 velocities. If it’s just a range, pig, coyote, knock around load, go for it (with only one in the tube) but I probably wouldn’t shoot the trophy buck of your dreams with them in a 30-30.

Might try those 190gr Sub X bullets. I bet they would expand well and are flat tipped

I guess I will have to go to the gun shop for the second day in a row. They will be the end of me this next week or so.
