    Barrel idea for Model 7

I just finished up with Form 1 can for my 6.5 CM. I also Have a 223 model 7 that I’m gonna want to use the can on, but the local gunsmith said the pencil barrel was too small for the 1/2x28 threads for the can. I’m thinking about a threaded replacement barrel. What a mid priced option for this? I’m gonna want it short, probably 18” or so.

    I put a Pac nor on my daughter's Mod 7 7 mm08. #4 contour.

No help on what barrel to buy.

Just wanted to add that you won't buy a Pac Nor barrel unless you find it on gun broker or something.

The factory burned down several months ago.

I have a custom Model 7 in .300blk but it came with a factory 16" barrel, threaded 5/8-24. Does Remington make the same thing in the 6.5? Might be an easy swap if so. Will you be replacing the stock too or just inletting it to allow the larger barrel?

New threaded barrel installed you are looking at ~$500 on the low end. Ruger Predator or Ranch rifle is a cheaper option. Can be found around $400 new, less if used.

This! I’ve sunk money into a Model 7 once, and that’s the only time I’ll ever do it. Grab a Ruger American Predator and be done with it.

As far as the barrel you’ll need a #4 to cut it that short and still have enough meat left.

Glad I’m not the only one!

OP.. if you go the rebarrel route - the muzzle end needs to measure .600” to be able to thread 1/2x28 and have a shoulder for your muzzle device to seat against.

I had one threaded. What I don't remember is if we had to chop it back a little to get more meat.

                  Same

I wasted money rebarreling my one and only model 7.
Wish I had cut my losses sooner and bought a savage.

I could probably just inlet the stock as needed.

I guess I got lucky. My daughter's gun is a shooter.

Don’t get me wrong, my gun shoots just fine, but I think the pencil barrel may be too small to thread for my suppressor.

I’ve seen people have adapters made to step up the size of the muzzle for threading purposes. If that makes sense?

You can’t make an adapter if there’s not enough meat to thread the adapter on. Most adapters are taking 1/2-28 threads up to 9/16 or 5/8. They have enough meat for the smaller threads, but not the larger threads. So the adapter just upsized it. Since he doesn’t have enough for 1/2-28 threads as it is, an adapter wouldn’t be an option for him. At least none that I have seen.

The local gunsmith that I talked to said I could threaded barrel at a 7/16, then use an a half inch adapter over that. The issue is,The can is not a direct thread on. I am using a griffin paladin adapter for the can. I’d rather not have two different adapters between my barrel in my can.
