I have never owned a Marlin 17, do they still make them?

They do. My buddy picked up a Marlin at Wal-Mart in .17HMR a few years ago and they still had them the last I knew. His isn't anything fancy it just has a synthetic stock on it but it's a good shooter. You can pick one up for around $200 or somewhere in that price range. The one I shot for a long time is my Uncle's gun and they're a little pricier but you can still find them fairly easily.

The first one I ever shot was a Ruger 77/17 which is my grandpa's gun. It's a really good shooter too. I wish Marlin would get in on the .17WSM. That's by far my favorite rimfire round available right now. I don't have any bad experiences with the accuracy of the B-Mag although I've only shot 3 different ones. But I wouldn't go out and buy one on account of all the negative comments about them. I'm not real big on having to take the safety off every time you load it is about the only negative thing I have to say about it though.

My brother shoots a custom Remington 700 in .243 using 87 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips. It hammers coyotes pretty good and surprisingly enough it doesn't tear them up bad. I've never seen one he blew up using those bullets. They dang sure don't go nowhere when he hits them though.

243 is hellava round. If I were to build another that’s what it’d be.

Oh yeah it's an awesome round. Doesn't kick the snot out of ya but will still dump a hog or pretty much whatever you're wantin to kill.

I may have been mistaken I know he shoots an 87 grain bullet. I can't find where Nosler makes a BT in that grain of bullet. Maybe it was a Hornady V-Max but I would have bet money the plastic tips were orange not red.

I worked up a load for a friend of mine who bought his daughter a .243. I used the Nosler 90 gr AccuBond and when I got it dialed in it shot extremely well. So well in fact that I have thought about getting one, or even a .243 AI.

My motivation would be for antelope and deer more so than coyotes as I have plenty of calibers for the varmints.

I shoot a 87 v-max out of my 6mm. Basically the same thing.

Pretty much. He also shoots a 90 grain softpoint sometimes. I'd think it'd be more likely to blow coyotes up bad but I haven't seen one that got hit with those that was too bad either. But he's hit a majority of them in the chest too so that helps. You can sure hear stuff sloshing around after that 87 grain bullet hits one. Turns their insides to mush.

                          223. I’ve had such good luck with it over the years, so that’s what I chose to go with in this year’s APR supply your own action build.

If any one is looking for a new caliber to play with, the 224 Valkyrie is a fun and accurate way to go. It is a hog killer as well as deer and Axis deer so far using 90 gr. Fusions. Drop to the 75 gr for less pelt damage. No felt recoil in an AR and supersonic out to 1200 yds or more.

My buddy shot some hogs with his last weekend using the 90 grain. Killed 'em dead. Smoked one right between the eyes and dropped it. Pretty impressive little round. My other buddy shoots the .224 Valkyrie too but he uses a 60 grain bullet and does well using it on coyotes.

Been around since the 70's but don't see em much any more. I guess they'd rather sell the new 17's. It's a 222/223 case necked down to 17. Mucho fasto too!
One of my buddies has a .17 Remington but I've never shot it. He likes it for coyotes and prairie dogs as well as the .17 Hornet.

What is the difference between the .17 Remington and the .17-223?
