CCA has a promotion going with the purchase of a lifetime membership you receive a .257 Weatherby Mag, Vanguard 26” w muzzle break. The cost is $1050 . My son is graduating Texas A&M in May and I’m considering this as a gift . I wanted to get him a rifle , was thinking .308 till I saw this deal . We fish salt & do the STAR deal , so I’m kicking it around .
The input has helped a lot to learn about the gun for sure !!!!

I have had two Weatherby MkV 257's, I shot the first one out and bought another, Both of them were a pain in the azz to get to shoot with handloads. I free floated the barrels on both of them and both of them like Reloder 22 better than H1000,IMR7828sc or Reloder25. Thought I would mention that if you reload. Also buy the Norma brand brass it holds up best.

I have one and like it.
I handload and shoot the same projctile in it as I do my 25-06's..
The animals that I have killed with both calibers cannot tell any difference between the 2. They are dead.

If you handload you will notice a huge difference in powder charge between the 2 but the gains do not exactly correlate to the extra charge.

Lol! Hopefully you have better luck than I did with it.

If I can’t get it figured out I’ll probably use the action for an APR build in .257, throw away the barrel and sell the stock.

I’ll probably just end up getting a 30/06 to scratch the CDl inch.

black ice, sorry to hear that.^^^^^ not much more frustrating than this. I own 3 257wb's. mark v, v/guard, and a cdl sf. the 700 cdl sf is junk. I also spent a ton on it to get it to 1" groups.. before Robert's precision trued it, bedded, lapped barrel, jewel trigger, it was a 2.5-4" gun... i put more into the gun that it cost new(it was a gift from my wife, so some sentimental value). lesson learned, re-barrel it right off the bat. my other two shoot weatherby ammo so well i can't conceive reloading for them. i have shot hundreds of deer and hogs w/mine over the last 20+ yrs.. had one doe at 225yds make it 40 yds. had a big buck at 429 yds make it 60yds. even had a 8 yr old s tx buck drop like hit by lightning, then get back up an make it 20 yds(through the heart/shoulder). all others DRT. i use the 100 hornady load. i reload 120 speer btsp, and 100ttsx for my brother's. like stated above, makes all others in your safe obsolete

I had the opposite experience sent mark v back twice, finally sold it. Factory SPS stainless is 5 shot .35 MOA rifle
