Real world Superformance MV

308 150g SST advertises 3000 FPS. My F1 Chrony showed consistent 2,800 FPS out of a 20” gas gun. I did notice quite a bit of burn on the cases, so it may not be getting a good seal. Just curious what real world MV you have found.

sounds about right, for a 20". discounting weatherby ammo, almost all mv's are from a 24"

For superformance ammo, from a gas gun with a shorter than average test barrel I would say you are in the wheelhouse.

I run the Superformance Match 73gr ELDM in my Noveske 16" and they advertise 2930fps and I was seeing around 2800.

That sounds about right. Test barrels are typically 26”. Lose about 25fps per inch you are down 150fps and gas guns seem to run slightly lower than bolt guns. Also there can be some variance from barrel to barrel in regards to speed. Then there is always error in the chronograph to consider.

It’s also possible you are a bit over gassed based on carbon on the cases. Might look into an adjustable gas block.

Superformance is slower burning than typical .308 loads, especially for shorter barrels.

Interestingly, I found a whole pdf on the topic on Hornady's website, which seems to go against conventional wisdom. I'm always skeptical of marketing, but here it is:
