    Custom action Recommendations?

    Guys,

Getting close to putting an order for a custom Long action action in either a 6.5x280AI or 6.5 Sherman. Looking at the below:

    American Rifle Co -Mauseingfield
    Bighorn-TL3
    Defiance-Deviant Tactical

What are yalls thoughts on the actions or maybe another option? I would like changeable bolt heads but not a requirement.

    Scott

Boy that’s a hard one. I own the TL3 and a defiance defiant hunter. They both have their upsides. Two totally different actions.
Defiance has tighter tolerances and is smoother. TL3 you can swap bolt heads and is a controlled round feed action. You’d need to step up to the defiance elite for CRF. I’d choose defiance. And I’d go with the deviant hunter. Look at the rail design. Covers less of the port. I believe I have the medium tang. I wouldn’t even consider the mausingfield due to the high price that gains you nothing.

I would like CRF. I like the Mausingfield for the history and reliability of the old actions and i think hes got some good ideas behind his actions. Why its on the list still.

I’d go deviant elite. From personal experience using the ones you listed.

I know a handful of people that dove into the Mausingfield train headfirst. Not one of them is running them anymore, and one buddy bought 10 for quantity discount for customer builds thinking he could move them. I think he still has 6 left new in the box 3 years later lol

I would buy a Kelbly Atlas Tactical long action and not look back. Rem 700 clone, precision machined 1-piece bolt (not two pieces that are tig welded), 20MOA pic rail, double pinned recoil lug, black nitride finish, TG ejector, sliding plate extractor, adjustable trigger hanger, priced at $999. If you need a barrel, order what you want from Kelbly's and the barrel will be threaded and chambered to perfectly fit on your action, headspace tolerances are within .001". You don't have to send your action or rifle to them, just order a barrel and you're done.

Out of the three you listed I would go defiance.

Do these come in long actions?

Saw the deviant tactical with controlled round feed looked nice. Just wish it was set up for pre fit barresl

Put a switch lug on it.

Get an axiom. Wto has the switchlug setup for the Curtis axiom. I can’t wait to get my 6.5x280ai super excited. I’ll probably also buy a barrel in 25x280ai mine will be on a switchlug.

Axiom is nice but the OP is looking for a little better quality. Upside to the defiance is it is all integral. 1 piece action with lug and rail. One piece bolt. NOT saying the axiom isn’t good in any way. Just 2 different animals.

Pretty much all of the Defiance lineup being made now can take pre-fits. It's hard to find many actions introduced in the past 2 years that are not pre-fit capable. I have not seen Lone Peak mentioned, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better action that can handle the dust/grit that a hunting rig will see, yet still maintain butter smooth operation and give up nothing in the precision side of things...........if you can live with a push feed design.
