    Leupold varmint reticle

I just purchased a 6.5 PRC and have a leupold with the varmint reticle. How do I go about figuring out the yardages for hash marks

Put the rifle on the bench at 100yds. Put a yardstick on the target or use a tape to draw a vertical line with length measurements every 1/4". Assuming you are running a SFP scope, decide on a magnification and then record the vertical distance down on the target for each mark/line/dot in the scope. Now convert those linear distances to MOA/MILS. You can convert this to other magnifications by scaling.

Leupold probably also has this data somewhere on their website. Something else I have also done that works well. Sight the rifle in at 100yds. Move to 300yds and shoot a group using center crosshair/dot holding dead on. Now, adjust the magnification until the 300yd group is lined up with the 300yd reticle mark. You will be within minute of animal out to 400yds AT THAT MAGNIFICATION. This is typically toward the upper end of the magnification range. If you can shoot out to 400yd, do it at that range....will put you real close out to 500yds.
