Ouch, that might sting a little!

Went to the range today for a little pistol work and some LRR therapy. Finished with the pistol and moved over to the rifle range. Quick verify of zero at 100 (shooting my best group to date, right at .3”) and walk down to the 300-600 range. We have steel at 345 and 615. There are a couple of guys shooting at the 615, so I concentrate on 315, working back and forth between the 4” to 8” as fast as I can. Do that a few times and then walk down to talk to the others. Both of them shooting suppressed, one a 308 and the other a 338LM. 338 guy lights off a round, and his can launches, landing about 100 yards down range. Dude was not pleased. It was a silencerco can, with a QD system. Huge baffle and end cap strike.

What causes that? It loosened up?

I am not sure that QD system is so great. I have had two take off when fired. no strikes but just seems odd it keeps happening to others

Or not tightened properly in the first place.

One reason I prefer direct thread. I know when it is tight.

I was at a range that had a pond on it and a few dudes where shooting a suppressed AR. Well the same thing happened to them, can flew like 10 yards into the pond. They spent a few mins knees deep looking for it.

They had some issues with certain mounts doing this a while back. Could be he was still using that system or could be operator error.

              Pretty much sucks either way.

I’ve seen several of the silencerco cans with QD mount get flung down range, mine included. They’ve had issues with their previous QD mount system but I’m not to sure their new system is any better. Out of the 4 or 5 I’ve seen fly, I’ve never seen a baffle strike in any of them. Definitely a bad feeling. Ensured each one was properly secure prior to firing too.

The ASR mount has caused plenty of hatred for SilencerCo cans. Ive had a few over the years. One of them has sat in my safe untouched since 2013 lol

Has happened to me to with an Omega 300, and I thought I had it tight. Lots of replacement aftermarket QD available too, gotta be a reason for that.... :-( Hate to spend the $$$ changing out connectors.

I've seen a can launch off into a ditch from a baffle strike... poor guy couldn't even use a magnet to fish it out because it was an inconel can lol
