Hearing loss is no joke. 20% of my VA disability comes from hearing loss. Sucks when you know people are whispering and talking about you and you can't hear what they said. Dirty bastages!

To answer the OP question I’ve had a rifle have a point of impact shift when going from a thread protector to a brake. I have also seen it where the impact change is very minimal. If you think it will help your hearing to shoot without a brake and still no ear protection, try it out and let us know. I learned the hard way over the years and now carry ear pro with every rifle that isn’t suppressed. I like hearing my daughter ask me ten million questions sometimes over and over.......

I shoot with ear protection all the time when I'm at the range or at a match, just not when hunting. I've never had a rifle with a brake so this is a little new.

Sometimes you just don't have time to put on ear protection when deer hunting.

I do wear ear pro when dove hunting.

Only way to find out of POI is different is by shooting. Depending on the brake and the thread protector the crown could be different causing different POI’s.

As far as remembering to wear ear protection, you’re not the only one, I forget while hunting and I’m sure there are plenty of us that do as well. Something that has helped me is using the ear plugs with the fixed plastic that goes around the back of your head. I wear them around my neck so I have them ready and don’t forget they’re there as they’re not the most comfortable things in the world.

I hate muzzle brakes. Never understood why people use them on hunting rifles. Suppressor or thread protector for me.

Those are the exact things I'm thinking about getting.

I realize this post isn't about hearing but it is related. I have used Honeywell Howard Leight Impact Sport Electronic Earmuffs long enough to wear out 1 set. They are amplified and actually help me pick up noises in the field yet when the shot occurs I don't get any of the loudness.

I have seen some maintain POI and others shift a little. Its a 6.5, lose the brake, add a thread protector and check POI. Call it a day!
