First day out with the Socom

Finally got my 458 Socom all put together and a few rounds loaded up. It is a lot of fun to shoot! As a self proclaimed recoil wuss, I was worried about about how hard it would kick. Not a problem at all. More of a push than a kick. Shot it at 50y to sight in, then reached on out to 350y. At 350 the bullet is dropping!
Tromix barrel and bolt, Anderson Manufacturing upper lower. Rock River trigger, Vortex Strike Force 1X4 scope. 325 gr. Hornady FTX over 34 gr. IMR 4198, 2.145" COAL. Shots 3,4, and 5 at 50 yards. The hole in the red is 17 HMR.

i really like mine, so far only have used factory ammo, but will add it to the reloading list when i accumilate enough brass,, i have not had any feeding problems with mine after i switched to the followers designed for the socom,,
i never thought the recoil was bad, but then i have used a 45-70 a lot, and used to own a 444 marlin and even a single shot 10 gauge,,,, so i suppose i am not recoil sensitive like so many who think the 7mag is bad,,, i had one of those also and after the first few rounds i was thinking " is that all, i thought these things had bad recoil"

the socom is a great round, so far all i have shot with it has been targets and 1 doe with a head shot,,,, nasty is not very descriptive of that wound! keep hoping the hogs will show when i have it with me!

Didn't take the chrono with me. Hoping to get it out for a few more rounds today and I'll get the speed then. It should be around 1600fps.

            I’m seeing 1750-1800 with 325gr bullets.

I'm running a pretty light load. I haven't tired to work one up yet. This was the first time shooting it and I only loaded 10 rounds to sight in and play with for few shots.

I’ve been playing with mine for a long time and just can’t get it to consistently feed I guess I’ll have to get a Tromix bolt and see if that helps.

My load is pretty warm and I actually need to back off a touch. It’s been pretty hard on brass.

what barrel are you running? I've heard of several that have problems with the feed ramps. Try a different mag first, if you haven't done so already. I heard you couldn't use pmags because of the ridge in the center of the mag, but at 2.145" COAL it has worked fine so far.

Close to the same for me with a 10.5” barrel.

I use the Lancer hybrid mags with no issues. Black hole weaponry barrel, Wilson BCG.

I tried the lancers and it still wouldn’t consistently feed.
                        Radical barrel and bolt.

What powder are you running in your SBR/pistol
