I have an old Number 1V in 25.06.

I wore the barrel out shooting coyotes, jackrabbits and prairie dogs. Sent it back to Ruger and had it re-barreled. They re-blued the action while it was there.

It's been a number of years ago but it was very reasonable. And it still shoots lights out with the new barrel

Some rifles are just made to be pretty. Ruger no1 is one of them and does not have the reputation of being super accurate. My dad’s 7mm Remington Mag will kill deer all day long, but it’ll only hold about 1.25 MOA on a good day.

In my opinion, those rifles were built to be a pretty hunting rifle that when your granddad bought back in the day he was proud of. 1.25 moa was no problem 40 years ago.

My granddads pet rifle was a 6.5x55 94 Mauser he sporterized and that rifle WILL NOT do better than 1.5 MOA. But he would never shoot a deer over 200 yards with it, nor did he ever have the opportunity in those woods he hunted.

1 to 2 MOA or even a little more accuracy will kill any deer inside 200 yards when shot in the boiler room. We are accustomed to MOA or better rifles and ammo these days but do not kill deer any deader than when most shot factory ammo using 4X fixed power scopes and if they could hit a coke can at 199 yards with every shot were good to go hunting. I am old enough to remember when many did not want one of those less reliable variable power scopes.

I like the Ruger #1 rifles they have style and are effective, not going to buy one for long range shooting but for distances most shoot at game (or should shoot at game) they are accurate enough

BTW I don’t think he was bragging, just noting the difference between bedding the forend something common with #1’s.
Apples to oranges there but nice try. Merry Christmas!

I’ve posted this rifle before. Custom No.3 with a Shilen select match barrel in 223
You can make them shoot 1/4” accurate but it will cost $$$. Only thing original is the frame

My 22-250 is about a 1 inch rifle, my 45/70 is about 2 inches at a hundred but it has killed a bunch of deer
