    Scratch Removal

I just acquired a 20+ year old Browning BLR on a trade. The rifle is in 95%+ condition, metal is perfect, wood has a few very light surface scratches that are in the finish only. You guys think it would be ok to try a very fine polishing compound on these scratches? If not, any recommendations?

It's worth a try. If the finish is like that on the used Browning Silver Hunter I bought a few years back, it is amazingly hard. I would try anything before I attempted to remove and refinish it.

Thanks Outback. It’s not bad enough for a refinish. If I can’t remove or lighten them some way, she’ll stay as is.

The older Browning’s had a very hard finish that is very hard to match I tried a couple times to remove scratches in the finish they looked better after sanding and then Wet sanding but I couldn’t match the existing finish

Update. I took some fine automotive compound and polished the scratches. It rounded them enough so they're not as visible, still there but not as noticeable. Didn't damage the surrounding finish at all. Thanks for the input.
