    Need opinions....

I have a long action magnum action to use for an APR build. Trying to decide between the 6.5 PRC, 264 win mag and 270 wsm. I do not load my own ammo, but Chad @ Dallas reloads will handle that, when needed. I currently have a 270 wsm and really like it, but it's soooo light that longer range shots are tough for me. I doubt I'll ever use ELD-X or Berger bullets in which ever I choose. I imagine the PRC will take off like the Creed and factory ammo options will greatly increase. 264 win factory ammo options are slim and watered down, velocity wise. Quite a few 270 wsm options available and I have quite a bit of ammo already. Rifle will be used for Texas game and Mule deer in NM and CO. APR already built me a bad azz 270 win that I use most of the time. I have a Creed for long range targets, so this will be strictly a hunting rifle. Feel free to ask any other questions and give your thoughts.

Since the 6.5 PRC and the 270 Win short mag are short action cartridges I doubt you'd gain anything by using a long action for them. I'd go with the 264 Win Mag.

Just my thoughts, but if I had an APR 270 win that I loved already.. I would consider stepping up to the 7 mag and spin it to shoot the 180 Bergers. Especially if hunting mule deer out west where long shots are a real possibility. Of the three you listed, I would vote .264 Winnie as well.

Love a .264 win mag. Probably my favorite caliber.

Agreed! Throated right and stoked with modern bullets, its just better today than it ever was - and it was always pretty dang good. Yep, its a little overbore, but the balance between moderate recoil, accuracy and performance makes it one of my absolute favorites. It demands proper loads to live up to its full potential.

If I couldn't or didn't want to do that, the PRC would be my choice. It's a lot of goodness ready to go out of the box.

Already have a Tikka 7 mag and I do not like the damage and lead fragments from Berger bullets.

Robert, what bullet would you suggest.....since I do not like the explosive type of bullets like Berger?

264 Win Mag and use 140 grain Accubonds.

Packed with HSM 140gr Berger VLDs...

I have a 270wsm and I hate the recoil compared to the 264 I have

My personal favorite is the Barnes TTSX, but I also use the 130 Accubond in my PRC and the 130 Swift Scirocco in my 6.5 Swede. I got sold on the Accubond using the 140 gr. in my 7/08. Everything was DRT.

Since you don’t reload 6.5 SAUM over the PRC. I’m sure someone with more knowledge between the 2 could chime in.

I was between 2 of your 3 choices for my '19 APR build.
I thought real hard about it and finally ended up with neither of the 2...lol.
I went with a 7mag and am in load development right now.
I'm currently averaging 3000 fps with 168 Accubond LR projectiles.
Waiting to get my fire formed modified cases back from Hornady to play with bullet seating depth now.

**Plenty of good factory ammo out there in 7mag if your don't reload though.
