For this of y’all who know me knows my other passion besides bow hunting is Buck and Slug casting and reloading. I’m pretty serious about it, too. I’ve created numerous slug and buckshot loads far more accurate than factory and cheaper too. I have a sponsored Facebook page and YouTube channel (Buck and Slug Reloaders).
So when one of my sponsors from Russian wanted to send me their latests slug mold design to review, I jumped on it.
This slug is a plumbata-style slug meaning that the wad is actually attached (via screw in this case) so during flight, it acts as fletchings on an arrow giving it its flight stability and accuracy.
The Europeans are so more far advanced when it comes to slugs than we are as that’s their primary means for hunting.
Anyway, I worked up some loads and decided to pull my son Ethan out of school earlier to see if we can smack something.
After about an hour or so in the blind, this old cull buck came out. Ethan made such a txt book shot, you couldn’t got it any more perfect.
The entrance wound on the buck was about 2.5-3” and the slug lodged under the skin on the opposite shoulder.
It’s smoked, and I mean smoked, the heart and lungs. Deer ran 20-30 yards.
I’d very since this much damage from anything caliber. And to top it all off, the slug expanded to over 1.25”!
