    Ok reviews on Athlon

So with the new build from APR right around the corner, after some posts from the last build I’m interested in yalls opinions on the Athlon scopes. Several folks mentioned getting that instead of the leupold.

Been selling and using Athlon for the past two years. Haven't had any complaints from customers and I'd compare them with scopes costing 1.5-2x more.

Never owned an Athlon optic of any kind but doubt you will get Leupold quality at a lower price.

Like most other brands, Athlon has a few standouts in it's lineup.....and a few that may offer nothing over it's competitors.....and a few not worth bothering with at all. There are 3 models that I feel confident recommending to customers.

The Ares BTR is a good scope for the price. It's a great deal at the prices they have been selling for lately. The turrets are unimpressive, but it's a serviceable scope that does what its supposed to do and has some great features.

The Ares ETR is in another league altogether. It will out punch scopes costing significantly more than what it actually sells for. The Cronus is a great scope as well, and is at the top of their product lineup. But, IMO the Ares ETR is actually the better scope! Glass between the two is very comparable, but the turrets and erector system on the ETR are better than the Cronus. They track as good as anything out there, and better than the majority of other brands.

The Cronus is getting an update soon, so will probably be the top choice again when the dust settles. The ETR smokes it right now though.

All that said, they are both really BIG and heavy scopes and may be out of their element on a hunting rig. I'd not hesitate to put one on a LR target rig. We've sold a metric ton of the ETRs since they came out. We've only had 2 warranty claims and both were handled promptly, and zero complaints on the rest that I'm aware of. I cant even imagine a world where I could say the same about Leupold or Vortex.
