On my first AR build. Just ordered the 6.5 Grendel, 18” barrel, ultimate upper kit from Larue. What is the best scope for the money today? It’s been awhile since I’ve put a smoke stick to work.

When looking at things objectively and not subjectively Vortex Viper and above product lines almost always offer more features than a similarly priced Leupold. Glass quality on the Viper and above product lines are good-to-great depending on the line. I have some of both brands and personally prefer Vortex options.
That stated I would not go any lower than the Viper product lines as the optical quality of those lines is significantly lower, especially when getting into the medium to high power mag ranges. I think a lot of "Leupold is better than Vortex" thoughts might not be apples-to-apples comparisons of similarly priced optics mixed with some post-purchase rationalization. They are both great brands that stand behind their products so no worry there and honestly you'll probabaly be happy with either of the two.
Steiner also makes some great stuff (some of which sport optics has on crazy sale right now) as long as you're planning on using a set it and forget it method without utilizing a ton of turret dialing.Last edited by BigJimmyRustler; 07-25-2019, 10:11 AM.

If I had it to do over again I'd go Digital Night Vision. That way you can hunt hogs @ night as well.
I hunt pigs alot year round primarily in the 8p-11p hours. Friday and Saturday I'll stay out later usually 12-2. I have pulled a couple of all nighters
Here's a couple of videos I took with the NV I recently purchased.
Just something to think about.
I bought a Vortex HST 6-24X50 and put it in Seekins AR rings. I was $800 into than I bought my Sniper Hawg Light 66LRX to hunt and night with it. I have $250 in that. This scope costs me $500. I am using my 66LRX w/ infrared bulb on the NV scope.
So in short had this scope been on the market when I bought my Vortex I'd a saved myself $800.Last edited by Pushbutton2; 07-25-2019, 10:42 AM.
