I love that round. I have a Colt 1911 made in 1967 chambered in it. One of the best 1911's I own, and I have quite a few of them. Sorry for the terrible pic:

I've done a lot of looking. A lot of the 1911's I've seen chambered in .38 Super aren't necessarily my style. I'm way too American to be having some of them pistols.

I started with this one and liked it so much I bought another one just like it. Back in the day when you could call STI and order whatever you wanted. It's killed a lot of stuff. Even won me $100 when a yankee I was guiding bet me that I couldn't hit a javelina that was around 100 yards away. It's a little light for hunting but have killed a lot of hogs with it and a couple of deer. .38 super and 10mm are my favorite calibers.

The reason they are popular south of the border is that it is not a police or military caliber. Citizens south of border are not allowed to have firearms in caliber used by police or military, hence the number of .38 super guns. Lot of 1911 supers south of border.
Every Mexican cop that I ran into in Mexico in the 70's carried a .38 Super

I had one in a Colt Commander with silver and gold Mexican grips that someone wanted more than me and stole out of my truck at Wharton Junior College in 1976.

I liked the caliber, but the .357 Sig is nice too.

Me too. My EDC is a Sig P226 in 357 Sig. Awesome round for sure.
