    Remington 7400 in .308 & Federal 110 grain ammo??

I'm purchasing a Remington Model 7400 for use on varmints and pigs that pop up driving through pastures. The rifle is .308 caliber. I'm thinking of using Federal Varmint & Predator ammo with 110 grain load. Hornady V-Max bullet.

Anyone have any thoughts on this combo? I want a good load that will cycle through a semi-auto rifle, not stomp a shoulder to death, and be good at killing pigs and coyotes. Thoughts?

If that is a 10 twist barrel I would think the 150 class would be more accurate. If a 12 twist it should be good with those light varmint type loads. Having said that it may work, just have to shoot and see what the target says.

Thanks. I expect to shoot a few cartridge types to see what it likes. Just trying not to have to buy anymore "test" ammo than i have to. Thanks again.

I tried some 110's in a 308 and they were really explosive and not very accurate. I shot a lot of the 125 Nosler BT and they were super accurate and deadly, penetration was good and they wrecked the internals.

I have never heard a .308 liking lighter rounds myself.

I’ve always heard 150 grain + always shoot more accurate.

You might be better off with a .223 or .243 for your application.

I’ve heard pretty similar things on the 30.06 which has what ? 23 different size ammo ? Because of the force or propulsion they too can get erratic in the lighter grains when shooting distance.

If you think about it, distance and conditions affect any caliber. Question is , and I have nothing to make a claim of, would a light grain 30.06 vs say a regular grain .243 under same conditions be outperformed?

I’m sure there’s some YouTube on it somewhere ? Some of what you hear is wives tales too.

I loaded some 110 vmax in a 30-06 awhile back. 60 grains of varget shoved them at 3450. Group was about 1 1/4”

10 twist tc Venture that would do well under an inch with loads it liked.

Thanks for the insight. I will check out several cartridges from several manufacturers.

Yep, that is the conventional wisdom... but sometimes a gun just likes the lighter bullets. I have a ruger mkII sporter that will NOT group anything over 150grs and really likes the FMJ 147s. The best groups I get with factory are the 150gr Nosler BT from Federal Premium.

Some guns do not care and others are very picky. Good luck!
