    quietest centerfire cartridge

Looking for a truck gun. I shoot primarily with suppressors, but I don't want to leave my suppressors in my truck 24/7. So, I'm looking for something that won't kill my ears in the cab of a truck.

Right now I'm leaning towards a 22 hornet, but I've never shot one.

    maybe 45 colt?

the hornet is a great option. a buddy has one and it is a nice quiet shooting (relatively speaking) gun. speaking from experience a 22 hornet going off next to your head is much better than a .270 or 12 gauge.

218, just cuz I'm partial to it. Killed dozens of deer and hogs with it, using the little blue Barnes pills.
To me it's not much louder than a 22 mag.

a lever action 44 or 45 colt,,, with the 44 you can shoot heavy loads or 44 special for reduced noise,, the 45 colt is not a high pressure round to start with so the noise will be lower...

with a 357 you could shoot 38 but the 357 loads will be louder than even the 44 mag most of the time, and the 38 will not be nearly as effective on a flesh target

17 hornet or a blk out. I recently build a blk out pistol & it’s not very loud.

I would go with a 7 mag with a brake

Stick with heavy bullets in the .300 black out. If you don't need to shoot past 100 yards or so, it will still be quieter than any supersonic round. Next up would be the .22magnum out of a 22 or 24 inch rifle.

Define "in the truck", I'm a .22 hornet guy but I can tell you when you lean across the cab to shoot out of the passenger window, with your scope above the swing out mirror but the muzzle not, even the tiny hornet is loud in the cab. Otherwise the hornet isn't a lot louder than a .22 mag. Myself for a bang around ride in the truck gun, I'd go with an inexpensive .22 mag.

There are muzzle devices that send the sound forward and do a good job at that.
KAK makes one that I have used on a 300BO AR pistol and it is quite effective.
So if your rifles have threaded barrels...I'd give these devices a look. Then you can shoot almost any caliber without concern to a point.
For the record...the 300BO was built for suppressed use, small cartridge, big bullet.

Probably not what you're looking for. But I have a model 92 Winchester 32-20, it sounds like a 22lr when you shoot it.
