    Hornady headspace gauge question

Anyone know which headspace gauge to use for the 6.5 PRC? I’m getting ready to load some and of course the cartridge is so new my old headspace gauge set doesn’t tell me which one to use.

    Thanks!

      I'd try the .420.

Hahaha! That’s a little extreme difference there!

As long as it goes over the neck it will work. They aren't that critical. I make my own and get as close to the middle of the shoulder as possible.

Just pick one that fits around the middle of the shoulder.

This is right. He’s referring to the size of the insert, as marked on the insert. I was referring to bullet diameter. Hornady says .420 for the 6.5x284 which is probably the best for you. Also, as stated above, find whichever fits because these measurements are relative, not absolute. Just use the same comparator insert each time.

Hornady responded this morning. They said to use the .420 headspace gauge. The comparator has .26 marked in the side so that's not a problem determining OAL.

Time to load a few up this evening!
