    Custom Varmint AR Build

I am looking into building a varmint style AR chambered in .223. As of right now, I am looking at the 20” White Oak Varmint upper with a Rock River Varmint complete lower receiver.
Does anyone have any experience with this combination?
    What do you guys recommend?
Is it better to build completely from scratch, or is it just as effective to use a complete lower and upper?

If you’re trying to save $ go that route using good components.

I got lucky a while back and traded for an 18” Varmint Rock River. Sucker is heavy, but it shoots 75bthp Hornady ammo into little bitty holes out to 300. (Furthest I’ve shot it) A buddy keeps trying to buy it off of me but she’s not for sale.

Order a Rainer Ultra Match 18-20” barrel. I’ve had several custom rifles built off Rock Creek blanks, and they’ve all shot lights out. The Rainier UM barrels are spun off rock blanks, and shoot excellent better than any other AR barrels I’ve shot. I’ve stretched mine to 970 so far, and it’s shot very well.

I researched a lot before I bought my varmint AR and I eventually found a deal on a slightly used Rainer upper and WOA 18” barrel. I had a billet lower that I assembled as well with an ALG trigger and with my 55 grain Amax loads shoots around an inch with a 1X4 power scope. Could probably shoot better groups with more magnification and heavier bullets but the foxes, bobcats and coyotes haven’t complained. Only things I would change are swapping for a 2X10 power or similar scope and shorten the barrel down to save a little weight. With ARs spend your money on the barrel and trigger.

You just can go wrong with anything RRA especially if you want an accurate rifle.

Looks heavy, I'd get something with a "mid weight" style barrel.
