Well I eliminated the Ruger Mini Ranch over concerns of its accuracy so now I am Looking into an AR platform. Don’t want to break the bank—say $750 max. I have looked into the Bushmaster line—and I know I am opening a can of worms—but others to consider. Don’t need/want the long hand guard or all the tricks.

I got a M&P15 Magpul edition a couple years ago for like $600 or $650 I think on sale. It’s a fun gun and have never had an issue with it. It’s one I don’t mind my nephews or new people going to the range/lease and shooting. It’s been beat up pretty good over the years and never missed a beat

That said, another strong route is the classifieds (TBH, Texas Gun Trader, GunBroker). Most guys are taking baths on ARs they built and you can get a whole lot of gun for $750.

Which AR
I’d look real hard at this. On sale plus the $30 discount code make it a great deal. Pick you a hand guard, stock and you have a great rifle.
Shop semi-auto rifles (106) at Brownells, including popular AR-15, AR-10, and other models in popular calibers like .223, 5.56 NATO, and .308 Winchester.
The larue kit mentioned above is a great choice.
Also shop around for a colt 6920. The regular, trooper and OEM can all be found for close to your budget.

Thanks for all the advice---I ended up ordering a Ruger AR that is "optics ready" meaning it doesn't have that tall front sight as I was concerned it might interfere with the scope field of view.
I broke down and got the AR after being frustrated at my attempts to shoot runners with a bolt gun--a RH gun and I'm a lefty. The AR will fix that for sure.
So, all that is left is the wait, mounting the scope, getting to the range and doing the zero. Will need to figure out which ammo it likes too.
