Shot a big porcupine out of a tree with a .204 once and just wounded it. They're really not that hard to kill generally. That pretty much told me I needed to switch. It'll explode a prairie dog or a jackrabbit but it's not the best thing I've ever seen for much bigger than that.
I've seen several hundred coyotes shot with a 204 from folks that know how to shoot...haven't seen many do much running.

A lot of guys shoot coyotes with a 270 also so it will "drop" them.

That's weird. It only took one or two times shooting the .204 to know it wasn't good enough for me. It's weak sauce compared to the 22-250.

Your coyotes are about the size of our jackrabbits too so that probably makes quite a bit of difference. I'm sure there are guys that kill whitetails with the .204 Ruger. Again that might work on a 90 pound buck in Texas half of the time. Up here you'd just wound one.

I'm not sure what a 270 has to do with a .204 Ruger either. They're not even in the same category. Sure you can kill a coyote with a .204 but it doesn't have the oomph to make a kill with a less than perfect hit on one.
