Finally getting close with the Swift

I’ve been trying to find an acceptable load for a new 220 swift I acquired. It has proven quite picky. The new gun did not like any of the loads I have been running in my other Swifts. I generally run H414 or H380, but this rifle seems to like Varget the best. Last powder charge had an ES of 11 at an average of 3906 FPS.

    Long Live The King!!

Mine seem to really like a healthy dose of N140...such a killer round. I picked up a minty original black VS I need to play with.

Yes sir, the king is alive and well. I’m jealous of your VS, I’ve always admired them. I have a vssf, a Ruger no.1, and this gun is a Varmint SF.

Bought my first Swift back in 81 and another in 84. I have shot more IMR 4064 and 4320 over any other powders. If you havent tried any 4064 in it yet I suggest you give it a shot. pun intended

I have a vssf i currently shoot but about ready to wring out the original.

Also have a super clean late 40's Winchester model 70 that I might sell...Bought the gun looking at a couple phone pics but the dang thing has been bedded when I was told it was unaltered. Seller got obnoxious when I tried to return saying he bought it as a safe gun & didn't know so decided to take my lumps & use it for a shooter as he sounded like he spent the $$$$.

Every time I get to thinking about mounting up a scope the whole deal refreshes & sticks in my craw. Probably should take my lumps & pass it along to someone who can enjoy it & go find another. I gotta weird relationships with collectable guns & some ding dong not being honest.

By the time you get a load worked up for it the barrel will be shot out.

Love the mighty Swift! Been shooting one since the late 70's and still my "go to" rifle for all things predators!
I load IMR4064 with Sierra 55 gr HPBT's (#1390's). It will put easily put 10 rounds at 100 yards at 1/2 inch or less which is plenty accurate for my purposes. I have shot a lot of different bullets and powders over the years with it but this is the one I use the most.

Anybody shot the 60 grain partition? I’ve never tried anything heavier than 55’s in my 1:14 twists.

4064 is the best powder in my Swift.

I've shot the 60 Partition in mine. It's not it's favorite bullet, but it isn't bad. Some of my rifles don't like that bullet.

                            Think I might try some.
