    Scope Mounting older rifle question

I have a Winchester Model 270 with an old sears scope on it that was passed down by my grandpa and the scope is almost out of commission.

Luckily I have a Redfield scope lying around that I can mount to it.

My question is...what kinda of rings do I need? Everything I’m looking at is made for Warne, Weaver or Picatinny rail systems and I’m not sure which will fit my rifle.

Any help is appreciated on this as I’m a rifle newb.

Why not just use the rings that are already on the rifle? Also, pics are going to help.

Because I don’t think the tubes are the same diameter

They make conversion rails for almost everything. Really good question. The rail is key then picatinny or weaver would be easy. I think model 70 steel bases from Winchester will work, but I’d email them.

That looks like a .22 with a grooved reciever, probably a 3/4 inch tube on that old scope. Any 1" rings for a grooved reciever should work if I'm correct in my assumption.

I wouldn’t be mounting that scope on a centerfire rifle. I don’t know of anybody that makes anything other than tip off rings for 3/4 inch scopes. It may not have enough eye relief for the recoil of a centerfire rifle. You could wind up with a scope in your eye. Get a one inch tube scope.

The one I’m putting on it is a 1” tube scope. The one I’m taking off is a 3/4”

Midway has a few, not an uncommon ring mount for 22rf rifles. If you dont find any let me know, I probably got some I can send you

Looks like I just need to measure the grooves and go from there

Standard 3/8" is what that rifle has.

You should be able to find 1" tip off / dove tail rings at Midway or Brownells fairly easy...maybe even decent local gun shop or gunsmith might have some lying around.

Shouldn't be a problem for you.

Wal Mart sells weaver 1” rings for a grooved receiver.

You are confused with the OP's original post it's a Winchester Model 270 not a Win. M70 chambered in 270.

OP, there are many choices of 3/8" dovetail mounts for 1" tubes in various heights available.
