    Ruger American predator 22-250

The wife got me a sweet Christmas present to upgrade my old savage .223 to a Ruger American 22-250 for my predator and carmine chasing. 22” barrel with a 1/10 twist. I will be shooting suppressed - y’all got any good load recipes or even great factory ammo?

Are you saving fur? If not Remington 55gr. Softpoints work as good as any.

I asked the same question to many of my 22-250 owning buddies including my brothers when I got one......and the overwhelming majority was the Remington 55 gr softpoints in the green and yellow box. I shot them in my axis and they were incredibly accurate at 100.

I just finished a box of 50 gr. Superformance a few weeks ago. I wasn't real impressed with their performance on coyotes. I've also shot reloads 55gr V-Max,50gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips,55gr. NBT's,50 grain Barnes Varminator,Hornady 52gr. BTHP and 55 grain Sierra HP's. I'd suggest the 55gr Sierra HP and Hornady 52 grain BTHP and 55gr. NBT for fur savers if you reload. Winchester Varmint X 55gr. Polymer Tips if you don't. The Remington 55gr SP's are deadly on critters but you'll have pass throughs more often than not on broadside shots.

Have the same gun that I have yet to shoot. A buddy gave me a bunch of custom 22-250 loads to try so I’m looking forward to finding its match.
Would love to hear what you find it shoots best.

Just a piece of advice for you guys, when/if the magazine fails to feed, Ruger will send you a free one that dies the same thing. Order a mag for a 450 bushmaster American. They’re single stack and fit/function flawlessly

I figured as much, ran about a box through it so far and seemed the mag was really suspect. Thank you for this sir

P.S. thanks for the leads and info so far. I do reload and really enjoying finding a good load- seems like people really like imr 6064 for these.

Federal 43gr factory ammo ---- granted its the first rounds ever through this barrel but at 100yds after 15rds its still probably at best a 2" group. Soooo- think its a no go for that.

I load the 22/250 for my GF's Ruger Hawkeye. It's a lights out shooter. I tried to duplicate the Barnes Vortex factory ammo she had been using. I believe Barnes was using H380 in their factory loads, but I had a can of IMR4895 so that's what I used. A max load of 4895/CCI 200 and seated to the same length as the factory ammo gives her sub .5 MOA. I haven't chrono'd the load, but her 22" barrel is probably giving around 3600 FPS. She's knocked down 6 hogs and a nice 11 point this year and nothing has traveled over 10 yards.

Try 55gr Winchester extreme point. Had good luck with those. Smoked a javelina and coyote with them, dropped them with minimal damage
