    Hornady ELD-X

Thinking about using the 150 gr Eld-x in my 7 mag next year for Colorado mule deer. Really like the ballistics of the 150 at 3150 fps or so vs the 162 at 2900-2950. Worried about performance though at that speed. Shots will be no longer than 4-500 yards. If not the 150 eld-x, what other bullet would you guys suggest? Taking my Browning X bolt stainless stalker carbon fluted 270 wsm with 140 gr Accubonds for spot and stalk, but wanted something to help with the wind on longer shots on crop fields. I'm not a handloader, but have someone that will load for me. Any thoughts or suggestions?

i have always heard the heavier the bullet the more accurate you will be down range, HOWEVER every gun is different. your gonna have to figure out what your gun likes and go from there. best of luck! wish i could help more

If your worried about the ELD-x and it's understandable I'd go with the Accubond. They're a more than proven performer and out to 500 yards the difference isn't that much.

I did a quick comparison on ballistics, they're all so close it doesn't matter. I used sea level for the comparison so it will be a little less as you gain altitude.

The 150 ELD is going to drift about 14 inches at 500 yards with a 10mph crosswind.

The 168 Berger is going to drift about 13.5 inches at 500 yards with a 10mph crosswind. HSM loads this in the 7rm and it's a killer.

The 160 Accubond is going to drift about 14.5 inches at 500 yards with a 10mph crosswind.

What velocities were you using for those numbers?

I wouldn't worry about it. The bullet will handle that velocity no problem. I'm shooting the 175 eldx at 3100 out of my 28 Nosler. I've shoot coyote, javalinas, and big mature south Texas whitetails and none have taken a step. The deer were from 100 to over 200 yards.

I used 3100 for the 150 and 2950 for the 160 and 168. They're close enough for what you're looking for.

IMO-they're all very close in drop, wind drift and retained velocity. It comes down to loaded ammo availability and which one your rifle shoots the best.

They will all make a deer dead.

Out of a 7 mag at 500 this ^^^ they will all perform well enough that the only factor should be you and your rifle doing your part.

My buddy and I found a load today for the 150 gr eld-x at 3167 fps. Between 1/2 & 3/4" groups at 100. Gonna take it out further and see what happens. Hopefully the 150 gr eld-x will hold together enough for 100 yard shots behind the shoulder....I know it will work at 300 plus. Might get to try it out on axis doe after Christmas.

I have killed 4 deer with 123gr eld out if my grendel
All passed through holes are about 2" on exit. I have only hit ribs and velocity is much lower 2450.
I would just make sure I only hit ribs

I have a pet load on my 280ai using the 150 accubond long range 26” barrel and h4831sc at 3060 and they will fly great out to 600yds from the shooting I’ve done with it. Killed a number of pigs with it too. My ai really likes the 140ttsx and 150ablr bullets more then anything else. Makes 5 shot dime size groups 100

My experience with the 143. Excellent blood,no idea how she went as far (maybe 60 yards) she did.

                        Exit hole
