    338 Lapua Barrel Suggestion

I like Proof Research barrels but looking for first hand experience and pictures to back other barrels in this caliber for accuracy. 1/2" 5 shot group at 100 or less (.5 moa for the real particular people).

Any quality barrel will give you that or better accuracy with a matched load. In my opinion, a carbon fiber barrel is to make a gun light. My 338 with a NF atacr is a little over 20 lbs and I like it like that, it’s a pleasure to shoot and I’m not packing around up and down mountains. I do take it to the blind and hunt with it though.

Bartlein MTU finished at 28" before brake, Stiller TAC 338 single shot, McMillan A-5 and a Jewell set at 1.5. Shoots mighty fine and, at 21.5 lbs., it won't kill your shoulder. Now wears an Atlas Bipod instead of the Harris and it's worth every dime. I've chambered Proof barrels for customers up to a 28 Nosler and they shoot well but I'd go with a solid steel, cut rifled barrel over a carbon barrel all day and twice on Sunday for a round like that. Don't go building a 338 and worry about weight or hiking around with it. 300 grn. Bergers over my handloads are handy as a hole in your peter...

as others have suggested, build it heavy and don't look back

contour: medium or heavy palma, MTU, M24, light varmint

barrels: any custom barrel such as Bartlein, Krieger, Lilja, Rock Creek, PacNor, HART, etc....

        length: 28" ~ 30"
