I’ll vote for the 308 in your situation. That was my first suppressed gun and I have dropped a lot of animals with it. Hearing safe with supers and stupid quiet with subs(just for fun tho). It’s an AAC SND-6-762, 30cal so I can run it on my 300blk and my 223 ar. Works pretty good on my 6.5cm too....even tho I have a TBAC that matches my barrel color in jail.
The weak point of the Omega is the mounting system. Luckily it can be replaced. At the time the ASR mount was developed 7 years ago it was a great mount. Things have came a long ways since then. They tend to carbon lock occasionally, but not very often. The biggest issue is they ratcheting teeth don’t always engage. I’ve seen my share of Specwars and Omegas go flying. If you’re using it on a bolt gun then just run the direct thread mount. It’s an excellent can in that configuration, or upgrade the mount to the Kymo if you want to use a QD.

Thanks for that info, I run it direct thread on the bolt gun and ASR on the AR. I'll look into the Kymo if I end up keeping the AR.

It’s hard to beat in direct thread configuration. Kymo uses Dead Air QD assembly, which is one of the two best mounts on the market. Rugged, founded by Henry Graham who developed the ASR mount for SWR, also has an excellent mount out. Direct thread gives you a ton of good options though, and a few are currently utilizing the already proven good options out there.
Here’s a write up from the guys over at Sin City Precision in Vegas. These are some great guys that I’ve been following since before I got into the precision world 6-7 years back, and they know their stuff. I’d like to think I had a little to do with them giving Dead Air a try after some of our conversations at SHOT
So I’ve been toying around with the idea that I want to bite the bullet on buying a suppressor. Was wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on which caliber is best for deer and hogs inside 150yds?
I’ve been leaning towards a 308. Been kinda looking at the ruger American predator or a savage hog hunter or possibly a mossberg mvp. Anyone have any experience with either of those on the 308 platform? Trying to stay $550 or less for the rifle.
I’ve got a 450 bushmaster and 7.62x39 in a ruger American ranch but haven’t found much for subsonic ammo for those. Not like with the 308 or 300 blackout. I reload too so interested to see what bullets everyone is using.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

so sell some of the other guns, which just replicate each other and get an AR in .458 Socom. 1/4 mile effective with subsonic ammo. the expensive part is a scope with enough elevation adjustment to allow for the 40 ft of drop. :-)
Ruger 6.5 CR. Mighty tough to improve that combo for the money.
And if you ever decide to reach out there, you are good to go.
Scope is biggest decision.
